Although I've tried it and I get the following error:

amixer: Unable to find simple control 'Master',0

"amixer scontrols" reveals:
Simple mixer control 'PCM',0
Simple mixer control 'Front',0
Simple mixer control 'Surround',0
Simple mixer control 'Center',0
Simple mixer control 'LFE',0
Simple mixer control 'Line In as Output',0
Simple mixer control 'Mic as Output',0
