So I have the same bug with an i965 chipset board ( ABIT AB9, a ICH8 ( not ICH8R, no AHCI ) chipset, and a JMICRON JMB363 controller ( for PATA, and AHCI compatible SATA ) ). Wery rarely it boots, but usually it freeses ( the kernel logger doesn't start that time ). With ' 'irqpoll' it boots smoothly.
