Hi guys,
I have a R51e ThinkPad with exactly the same problem. You can solve this both ways:
1) the way Leha explained it above, or 2) by adding "acpi=off" at the end of the "kernel /boot/vmlinuz-...." line in /boot/grub/menu.lst
Both ways sacrifice the important ability to see how much battery-time I have left.
If you find a way to check your battery-time with the acpi disabled, or a different work-around, please post it here. Thanks.
Regards, GC
