The later upgrade to 2.6.17-10.26 haven't changed it.
It seems that during boot a ifrename is tried invoked, but it fails. I dunno if this is of relevance, but my WIFI were previously "eth0" and now is "wlan0" (but recognised as a wired interface).
ifrename cannot be installed by itself "No candidate version found " (aptitude).
I dunno if this is the same problem as bug 63508, but maybe.
My WIFI was working in Edgy until the upgrade to:
[UPGRADE] fglrx-kernel-source 8.28.8+2.6.17.5-5 -> 8.28.8+2.6.17.5-6 2.6.17- 10-generic 2.6.17-10.24 -> 2.6.17-10.25 d-modules- 2.6.17- 10-generic 2.6.17.5-5 -> 2.6.17.5-6 d-modules- common 2.6.17.5-5 -> 2.6.17.5-6
