I can confirm the same problem on my CQ50-110em laptop. I managed to install Intrepid 64-bit using the alternative installation CD, but I receive the same errors reported here when I try to boot from grub.

I'm not sure if it's relevant, but I previously managed to install the 32-bit version using the alternative install release candidate CD, without having to modify any boot options. I then installed the backports kernel modules and the Atheros wireless adapter "just worked".
