Whatever, we are saying the same thing, even though I cannot comprehend why "The cause of the bug is not relevant here", seeing as how the whole purpose of this thread is to help users and the ubuntu-development team in fixing the bug. I just said temporarily closed, while you said "wontfix". It's the same intention and the same solution. Someone can post here about the problem, yet because the ubuntu-development team isn't dealing with the problem, it will be vastly irrelevant to fixing the problem. Because it is *not* an isolated issue on the ubuntu distribution, but rather one that affects the entire linux community, I suggest that concerned users post on the thread given at the link above in order to aid in the solution to the bug.

Let me see if i can help explain to you the source of the problem. The Hardware Access Layer (HAL) provided by the madwifi package, at this point, does not work for the AR5007 chipset, and until the new version of the HAL is implemented, the wireless card will not (Besides, of course, the hideous "Ndiswrapper"). So you can go ahead and call this "an Ubuntu bug", but the fact of the matter is that it is only tangently related to the ubuntu distribution by the fact that ubuntu installs the madwifi package by default. Overall, there is no "easy workaround" except to install the branch version of madwifi with AR5007 support, or to sit tight and wait for the updated package to be added to the repositories.
