If the Hardy madwifi driver in linux-restricted-modules doesn't work for you, then try the DKMS madwifi package in the PPA http://ppa.launchpad.net/timg-tpi/ubuntu. Beyond that, you'll have upgrade to Intrepid for better Atheros 5K support.
