Please correct if I'm wrong, but I think that it's a bug at application level, not at kernel level. Of course, if I'm wrong and the only way to fix that is updating the kernel, then there is no problem, at least as I don't have to wait for the next stable release.

There's another problem, as you already mention. The problem happens when hibernating, and if I can't hibernate, then I can't verify if it's fixed, so I think the proposed solution is invalid.
