I have the same problem too, I captured relevant information from dmesg (attached).

Notice that the Kill Switch is working though the LED is not blinking when I turn the wireless on.

Also, this is the output of:

My laptop is Acer Extensa 5620 with iwl3954. I am running Ubuntu Hardy Alpha 4 installed from the LiveCD
