You can 'apt-get install linux-backports-modules' and it'll pick up the amd64 version if your kernel is amd64.
IOW, it does the 'right thing'. I would probably do a reboot afterwards, just to be sure, but its not required.
At this point, the 1530 microphone still does not work with the linux-backports-modules. There's another bug report against the 1530 and backports, but its status is still undecided (and the title still says m1330, no one with authority has fixed that yet!). I installed the backports modules so it would show up in updates as soon as its released.
