Personally, this is the second best solution, but a solution I can live with.

And when trying to promote Ubuntu to others, at least I can say it is like using a Mac, in this regard. I am hoping the upcoming changes which make this necessary are worth it. I was waiting for LTS to give Ubuntu to some people who don't like change, but the reasoning for this won't become clear to them until they upgrade, in 2 years' time.
