Confirmed working when following Abinoam Jr post, by commenting out the indicated lines in /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice

Now, the following (in terminal) work:
openoffice
ooffice
ooffice --writer
ooffice --calc
ooffice --impress

The followng does not work:
ooffice -writer
ooffice -calc
ooffice -impress

It's weird that one additional dash - can be the difference; anyone knows why?
