Hmm, if I LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so cheese
I get:

libv4l2: error requesting 4 buffers: Invalid argument

on startup and

libv4l2: error converting / decoding frame data: v4l-convert: error destination buffer too small

when changing resolutions
