The original bug report that everyone is following up to is about random breakage of the modifiers, even on a logout and login, that's fixable by removing .gconf/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard. This is completely unrelated to the VMWare problem. Could someone please open a new bug report for the VMWare, cross-desktop issue?
