This bug is about the plymouth theme rendering with dithered colors on the VGA fb driver. It's still not going to look as good with the binary video drivers as it will on the free ones, because the binary video drivers don't give us a suitable kernel framebuffer that we can write to.

If it looks better when running on Ubuntu, that's almost certainly because you don't have the binary drivers installed in Ubuntu.
