Probably the reason is because developers doesn't use thumbnails or doesn't have big video files.

Anyway, I'm using KDE 4.4.x (now I've 4.4.4) and it is a couple of months that I don't have that problem, maybe it has been partially fixed in the latest release... I hope :-)
