I think I can confirm this. It seems I can work around the problem by explicitly unchecking "play sound" for the logout event in _addition_ to my usual preference (notification sounds turned off altogether). Or I can leave everything in its default state, as for a new user/with an untouched knotifyrc, and let all sounds play but turn down the volume on the notifications.
