Yeah... Plus you're not sure, at a glance, if it's changed due to an email or chat. Worse if you check the applet and have received an email but don't actually check the email in evolution the applet stays shaded in. So if you get a chat alert you'll just assume that the applet is shaded in due to the email you didn't check.
