I too have the cheapo Dell keyboard with no extra buttons.

I had to resort to totally just removing this from my system with Synaptic.

My system do not need the hotkeys (not that I am sure what they were supposed to do, but superfluous on the cheapo version.

So far, no issues with updates. (Until later I suppose..)
