I encounter almost the same problem with my two external drives:

I've tested these drives under Hardy and these resets doesn't accur. So this can be marked as a regression. I don't know how to do this.

For me unlike other reporters the drives also reset under karmic.

I first thought this was because the system probed for smart as this also can trigger resets but i've tried to blacklist the drive
and it didn't help. Also the above messages are taken with a full up to date lucid with the new udisk package
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/lucid-changes/2010-February/006701.html
as i understand right it waits 30 sec before probing. I get the resets in seconds after insertion. So i think i can rule this out.

I can use my drives unlike other reporters. But i bought the freecom XXS to put lucid on it and this doesn't work. It corrups the filesystem during boot.
Sometimes i can get past the corruptions and log in in my lucid on usb. When i tried to update the system, the system freezed when installing the new acpi-support package. At the installation it disables acpi to install an this triggers a total lockup. Also i never been able to boot with the noacpi parameter at boot. Maybe this can be help find the problem udev rule?

I hope there will be a solution that fixes all the drives at once, in my search i found a lot of other people complaining about this.
