i have this problem on dell vostro 1720 with ubuntu karmic/x86_64:

i have blacklisted my pcspeaker in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf:
"blacklist snd_pcsp
 blacklist pcspkr"

but i still hear this annoying beep on shutdown.
