sudo apt-get remove --purge gnome-games gnome-games-data
sudo apt-get install gnome-games gnome-games-data

This apparently fixed it. I don't know if it got fixed because of the
reinstallation of gnome-games-data, because of --purge option or just
because it was the second removal :-
