I wonder if this is http://sources.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=7060 ? Using a certain amount of guesswork, I traced the problem as far as gethostbyname4_r myself, then found that bug.

That said, the comments on the patch near the end say that Firefox is *not* affected.
