Unfortunately, before reading this, I'd clicked Close, so I got the next message box:

The upgrade will continue but the '/var/cache/apt/archives/libc6-i686_2.7-9ubuntu2_i386.deb' package may be in a not working state. Please considier submitting a bugreport about it.

Clicking Close might be why term.log is zero length. Or perhaps not.
