I was able to use Xming to establish a remote XDMCP session to a Karmic box. I just added the following lines to the \etc\gdm\custom.conf file:

[daemon]
RemoteGreeter=/usr/lib/gdm/gdmlogin

[xdmcp]
Enable=true
