The Gnome developers will say this is "intended functionality" because the Gnome keyring is (supposedly) used for other things, and they don't want it to be subverted by autologin. I would argue that if the Gnome keyring is so sacred then WPA passwords and WEP keys shouldn't be kept in the Gnome keyring: an alternate method should be used.

Of course, nobody uses the Gnome keyring for anything else because it is too damned annoying, and, well, cryptic. In any case, it turns out that if somebody gets physical access to my machine they can get hold of the wireless keys no matter what. So BFD. Give it up.
