Here are steps to reliably reproduce this problem on lucid laptop (stock) running libfuse2 (2.8.1-1.1ubuntu2):

1. install auditd (e.g. 1.7.13-1ubuntu2)
2. add a custom rules file with any rules other than "delete all rules" (I've attached an example) to /etc/audit/audit.rules
3. reboot (it's probably possible to restart auditd + gdm + gvfsd + mounts, but rebooting is more reliable)
4. access a fuse mounted filesystem (e.g. run 'stat .gvfs' if logged in under gnome)
