Actually I was guessing it might have been lingering in some preferences
of mine and thus included in the list simply because of that.

I found that, surprisingly, more dictionaries had human-readable names
when I applied my patch, but this might be just something on my test
system. However, if that is a correct observation then perhaps changing
the separator would be preferable to suppressing the underscore variants
(or perhaps you could do both -- change the separator and suppress the
hyphen variants).

Figuring out whether it's okay to change all myspell dictionaries is
probably more work than can be done before Karmic, although I've
observed in other bugs a tendency to prefer "make it right" over "make
it work now". As such, I think suppressing the superfluous entries is a
kludge of the latter kind. But I'm not complaining. (-:
