This bug still is "valid" imho:

Steps to reproduce:
1) Start firefox using a profile "xyz"
2) Start firefox with the options "firefox -P xyz -no-remote"

Result:
I dialog appears stating
"Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system."

Environments used:
Ubuntu Linux, Gentoo Linux
Firefox 7.0.1
