I don't know if this is a solution to the problem, or if I'm just avoiding the problem.
In following a different issue, I found that my computer has problems with some programs and hyperthreading. If I have hyperthreading enabled in the BIOS, firefox crashes, if I disable it, firefox doesn't crash (on the page listed above).
So, I don't know for sure if it's a problem in how firefox treats hyperthreaded machines, or if it's an actual bug in my BIOS or other hardware. Seeing as this machine is a cheap-o HP from Best Buy, my money is on it being a BIOS/hardware error.
