I'm happy to close from my end, with one final comment. From my initial tests it seems that IE does not suffer the same fate as it does use the AIA to grab the issuing CA details, where as opera and firefox doesn't seem to want to do that. maybe it should be a feature in a future release of Firefox noting that the MS implimentaion is not strictly RFC compliant. - just a thought.
