Hello everybody, I'd like to add a "me to" for Windows/XP and Firefox 3.0.6 to 3.0.8 (at least). Unfortunately this bug as an unfurtunate "complaints and suggestions" to "solutions" ratio, partly because some unlelated or new issues were mixed in. I think that commnet #1 describes it most exactly, maybe with the addition that you need to have a non-trivial master passord and the FIPS option enabled. Important IMHO are comment #66 and comment #86.
When I hit that bug for the first time, I thought, I had mistyped my master password, and that's because all the dialogs that prompt for a master password are exactly on top on one another. That means if you entered your password correctly into the topmost dialog, that will vanish, making the next-to-top one appear. However for the user it just looks as if the password field was emptied and the user should retype the password (as if that were wrong).
Experimenting I also found out (sorry if someone reported that already) that it's sufficient to enter the master password to any of the dialogs and press "Cancel" for all the others. OK, for far for the effects...
The most primitive solution (pre-step for any solution) would be (IMHO) to place the individual dialogs not exactly on top of each other, and not to give different instances of the same dialog the same window title. That would make the problem at least more obvious to users.
