I hope it's not inappropriate to make an "out of the box" remark in this bug, but other browsers use OS's native mechanisms to encrypt data (DPAPI on Windows, Keychain on Mac, keyring on Gnome etc), obviating the need for a separate "master password" feature (and making bugs like this moot). Is there any reason why Firefox wouldn't want to move in this direction? Is there any current work being done in this regard?
