The image is printed through Cairo, but the actual image is stored in an xlib surface, and that's the surface that's printed -- which is where the problem lies. It's also wy MOZ_DISABLE_IMAGE_OPTIMIZE fixes things -- because that skips the step of uploading the image to the X server.
