Sorry for all the comment spam... one more distinction between these problems: with the "black box problem", dragging the black box shows the correct image in the tooltip. With the "invisible image with transparency" problem, dragging the area of the browser window that should be showing the image does *not* show anything. However zooming in far enough with Ctrl-Scrollwheel eventually adds scrollbars to the browser window, so the image is there in the DOM, it's just not being displayed, and it seems that it's definitely a different problem in both cases.
