This image is a PNG with an alpha channel, and does not display at all in FF3. Just go "firefox tmp.png" to see it (or not as the case may be :) ).

Running the script in the comment above on this image does *not* cause the image to be shown at certain sizes. Therefore it seems that this is an unrelated problem to do with alpha channels in images.
