No, please do not reopen this bug. The issue, as best I can tell, is firmly in XAA; most X developers have no interest in maintaining XAA these days, as EXA is the future. I don't really have any interest in debugging X, so that leaves us at an impasse here. Gecko's interaction with X is entirely through cairo; similar problems as seen here have been reported (e.g. the cairo extend-reflect testcase crashing), but I don't think anyone has been able to track down the root cause. Disabling offscreen pixmaps fixes most of these problems; if that fix does not work, then a new bug should be filed, probably against X.

Comparing Firefox 2 to Firefox 3 isn't useful, beyond being able to see what a "working result" is -- the usage of X between the two versions is completely different.
