FWIW, I still can reproduce it in latest-trunk.

Neal, did you see this last part of Comment 0? It definitely affects the bug's reproducibility, so it may explain why you're not seeing it:

(also, if it's not clear, "this only seems to work" means "this only seems to reproduce the bug")
