the fglrx driver will drop support for <= R5xx cards in the release compatible with xserver 1.6.

So starting from jaunty fglrx will work only on R600 and R700 cards (Radeon HD 2xxx and later, excluding some 2xxx which). All other users should upgrade to the xserver-xorg-video-ati driver.
