Has anyone done any work on this? I also have this same issue. All open gl apps play choppy or blink... when compiz is enabled.
I am using version 8.3 fglrx through EnvyNG and using the latest updates for Hardy.
Problems with glxgears
googleearth
Mplayer (non full screen)
etc...
