woah, wait a sec!

something else i noticed: the picture of the power button is a little cut off at the top! check it out for yourself. the power button icon is shaved off at the top. you guys are going to fix this, right?

also, there is no indication that the fast user switcher is actually used for switching users until you create a new user. by default, the fast user switcher is just a power manager. this does not make sense to me, and it will not make sense to anyone i set in front of an ubuntu 8.10 machine. in fact, i didnt even know that it was possible to switch users using the fast user switcher until i tested it out!

also, switching users has nothing to do with your power settings.

look, this whole thing just doesnt make sense, and i dont think it will make sense to very many people either, so i propose having a separate power button and a separate new user switcher that integrates with pidgin.

which brings to light: as soon as you start up pidgin, the power button disappears immediately. this will also confuse people. yet another inconsistency.

its nice that it can integrate with pidgin, so i have a great idea that im sure everyone will like:

1. you can put the user switcher where it used to be, and have a separate power button

2. you should remove the power options from the user switcher menu, and have it do just user-related things. in this place, you will be able to change your user, change your pidgin status, and lock your screen.

3. the separate power button will always be there at the top-right of the screen, and will always have the power icon. clicking it will ask you what power-related thing you want to do, just like in the last release

the bottom line: the user switcher was meant for doing user-related things. the power button was meant for doing power-related things. there have been many, many problems that have arised from trying to mix them, including confusion, inconsistency, and aesthetic issues. due to these bugs, problems, and flaws that have arisen, it would be better and easier to have it the way it used to, as i described above (1, 2, 3). I am sure that now that i have brought these problems to light it will lad to the bug being re-opened and action being done.

please respond. thank you in advance
