It looks to me like this could be fixed by simply not writing out EXIF.OriginalDateTime to the first version of the file (named "Original") imported by F-Spot. That version is marked as protected, and should be read-only anyway.

As far as I can tell, F-Spot only reads the tags once, on import, and uses the database for further lookups.
