I have exactly the same problem since ~ 5/19/10. It occurred after an update, as far as I can tell.

Also the menu under the mail icon in the indicator apple has changed, I have now "Set up mail" option constantly, even though I have my mail accounts set up.

(Ubuntu 10.04, Gnome 2.30.0, Evolution 2.30.1.2)
