Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

The titlebar unread count gets out of sync with the actual number of unread emails. It is correct on starting Evolution and will count down correctly as an email is read but does not increment when a new email is received. Please see screenshot attached: there are 2 unread messages as correctly shown in the sidebar but, as I have had this open for a while and received and read a few messages, the title reports -10 new messages.

Details of setup

Description: Ubuntu intrepid (development branch) x64
Release: 8.10
Evolution from ubuntu repositories version 2.23.91-0ubuntu1
Exchange hosted mailbox

Thanks for the report, may you run evolution from the command line and see if there's any output there and paste it to the report? we have a report about minus numbers in folders with unreaded messages but since you're using exchange it would be nice to see if it's the same or not, thanks.

Command line output attached below. I only just launched and then closed evolution, so it did not show the display bug during this session. Let me know if you want me to capture the output as a mail is received or read.

Yes please give us that output also, thanks.

I too had a negative number of mails in my inbox which is accessed via imap. I grabbed a screenshot but didn't run it from the command line so have no text log. Next time I started evolution it _briefly_ said I had something like 4 billion unread messages in my inbox, then switched to none, then up to 2 (which was right).

I have not seen this problem since the latest update of the evolution package to version 2.24.0-0ubuntu1, will report back here if it appears.

do you still have this with latest evolution? it seems to be a variation of bug 260120. Could you run evolution from the command line and attach the output in the report? thanks.

I am having this problem with the version of Evolution released with Ibex RC1. I've run Evolution from the terminal, but not with anything interesting. I have about six IMAP accounts, and my search folder shows about -1279 unread, -1664 total...there are about 15 in reality.

Anything I could do to help fix this would be a pleasure.

I've just upgraded to Ubuntu 8.10 and also encounter this problem.

Evolution's about menu reports version 2.24.1

apt-cache policy evolution reports:
evolution:
  Installed: 2.24.1-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 2.24.1-0ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 2.24.1-0ubuntu2 0
        500 http://free.nchc.org.tw intrepid/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I'm going to attach a screenshot.

Also, I wonder if it could be related to this bug: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=405677. As you will see in the screenshot, the combo box by the "Show:" label is huge. If I click on it, it seems that there is a translation problem with the message label names.

I'm still affected by this bug in Intrepid with all updates applied. I've attached a screen shot. The email count is wrong in my search folders. It is correct in the individual IMAP folders.

Running evolution from command line didn't show anything useful. I'm reopening the bug.

don't reopen closed bugs because you have a similar issue, this one has been fixed but there is similar ones still open on launchpad and bugzilla.gnome.org

This comment would be more helpful if you had provided more information.

1. How are we to tell that this bug report does not apply to the problem
we are experiencing? If you don't tell us where we erred, you are
inviting the same error in the future.

2. You seem to know that there currently are bug reports in Launchpad
and Gnome's bugzilla which are more appropriate to report to than this
one. Why don't you tell us which those are instead of having us search
for them?

Thanks,
Louis

1. no, but this bug was an issue which has been debugged and fixed, that's not because you have something which looks similar that the code issue is the same, by reopening this bug you create confusion, you should rather open a new bug and describe your issue than assume that the issue is the same there

2. because I don't know all the numbers and I would have to spend time to find those and if I would be doing that for every duplicate filed I would spend my days looking for numbers rather than working on issues, why couldn't the submitters be looking for the open bugs rather than relying on an overworked team to do that for them too?

My bad. It looked to me like I have the exact same issue, so reopening seemed like the right thing to do :)

I've searched launchpad and there seems to be a lot of bugs filed around wrong email counts. I guess I'll just wait for some patches to be issued and see if that resolves it for me.
