Bug Description
I'm trying to use Xgl + compiz on a Sony Vaio VGN-A215M. It has a widescreen LCD panel (1280x800)and an ATI card. I installed xorg-driver-fglrx to get 3D acceleration.
I installed xserver-xgl to get the Xgl server. I launch it this way:
- log under GDM with the Xterm rescue session
- Xgl -fullscreen -ac :1
This gives me the grey default X background with a cursor. Then in a vt I do:
$ DISPLAY=:1 compiz
and I end up with a completely messed up display on the X server. I'll attach a screenshot to this bug report.
There's something strange I noticed about the Xgl session. Every operation I do on it takes ~20 seconds to complete. By 'operations' I mean things like:
$ DISPLAY=:1 glxinfo
$ DISPLAY=:1 fgl_glxinfo
$ DISPLAY=:1 xranrd
Also, I managed to run a Gnome session under Xgl by modifying the gdm.conf file. Things worked, but entering text was really slow (half a second by char), be it in the firefox address bar or in a terminal. Except for the text, menus and applications were as responsive as with the normal X server.
Any idea what's going on?
