 Yes, this appears to have done the trick. Upon shut down and reboot the
Firefox screen now presents properly.
Thank you very much for your time and bother. I don't have a lot of time
to search through all the bug reports
and probably wouldn't recognize the proper solution if it bit me so your
assistance is greatly appreciated.
