Rocko described the problem very well.

The real problem is, that user forced to install proprietary, broken
fglrx driver instead of nice, working, open source radeon driver.

With 'broken fglrx' I mean:
* no xrandr
* random crashes, at least with my Mobility Radeon X300
* no wakeup from standby mode
