vexorian, thank you for your assistance in this matter. As a reminder, it is still not recommended to *install* Lucid just to test a few packages. Also, a virtual machine, while very useful, can sometimes cause slightly different behaviors than your actual machine because some virtual machines translate the hardware into generic interfaces, causing the virtual environment to use different drivers than it would have used on the machine itself. Therefore, in order for the virtual machine tests to be useful, the problem first has to be reproduced using Jaunty or Karmic in the VM, and then tested using Lucid in the VM.

As an alternative, you can boot into a LiveCD session of Lucid without ever touching your current install (it is very much like how Knoppix works, if you have ever used that).
