I am also facing the very same Bug in 8.10 (Ubuntu-Studio-Edition) , amd64, Brasero 0.8.2!
Luckily I have a multi boot system and just rebooted to 8.4, 32Bit.
Brasero there recognised the very same cd-r correctly.

But of cause that is a work-around and can not be seen as an appropriate solution for a reasonable Ubuntu-Studio OS usage.
