I can confirm that it seems to be related to the drive you use. I have 2 Samsung Drives in my PC, the old PATA SM-352B recognizes the blank CD correctly and the SH-223Q reports the size as 0 Bytes.

Please backport the fix to intrepid because it is really annoying.
